Free speech to text online — voice typing in your browser
Speak — get ready text. Punctuation is dictated by voice, capitals are placed for you, the draft is never lost, and what you dictated can be cleaned up by AI right on this page. Everything runs in the browser: there is nothing to download.
How to convert speech to text
This voice pad turns your speech into ready text right in the browser. It fits the moment when you need to dictate text by voice — a note, an email, a post, a first draft — and typing would be slow or awkward, especially on a phone.
Three steps
- Choose a language and press “🎤 Speak”, then allow microphone access.
- Dictate. Interim words are shown in grey, recognised text goes into the field. Say punctuation out loud: “period”, “comma”, “new paragraph”.
- Press “🪄 Improve with AI”, pick a version — then copy it or download a .txt. Your draft is saved automatically.
🎙 Voice commands for punctuation
period → .comma → ,question mark → ?exclamation mark → !colon → :semicolon → ;dash → —quote / unquote → “…”open / close bracket → ( )new line → line breaknew paragraph → paragraphCapitals are placed automatically at the start of the text and after “.”, “!”, “?”. Voice punctuation works for English and Russian; other languages are recognised but punctuation commands are not translated yet.
What people use it for
Dictating notes and messages, typing by voice on a phone, first drafts of emails and articles, turning your own voice memos into text, writing up a meeting while it is still fresh. For files you already have, use audio to text.
Online pad or a dictation program
Half of the results for “dictation software” are Windows programs you have to download and often pay for. Here is the honest difference so you can choose with open eyes.

Already have an audio file? processed on our own servers
A voice memo, a lecture, an interview, a message from a messenger — that is a different job, and it has its own page. The file is transcribed on our own speech-to-text farm in Russia: it is not passed to third-party cloud services and is deleted after processing.
Need whole calls and meetings transcribed?
This service is for quick personal dictation. When the job is bigger — transcribing recorded calls and negotiations with speaker separation, speech analytics and summaries — we have paid AI services for that. Everything runs on our own hardware: client audio never goes to external clouds.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert speech to text online for free?
- Press “Speak” and dictate — recognised words appear in the field immediately. No sign-up, free, in Chrome, Edge, Safari and on Android.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No, this is an online pad: it runs in a browser tab on a computer or a phone. A comparison with desktop programs is in the table above.
- Can I dictate punctuation by voice?
- Yes: “period”, “comma”, “question mark”, “new line”, “new paragraph”. The next sentence is capitalised for you.
- Is there a time or character limit?
- No. Dictate as long as you need, the number of sessions is not limited, and no account is required.
- What does “Improve with AI” do?
- It sends what you dictated to our model and returns three versions: a clean one (punctuation, paragraphs, no filler words), a business one and key points. Pick one and it goes into the field. If the model is busy, the clean-up is done by rules on the server, so the button always works.
- Where does my voice go?
- Live dictation uses your browser’s speech recognition — in Chrome the audio is processed by Google. For confidential material use file upload, which runs on our own servers.
- How do I transcribe a whole recorded call?
- That is a separate paid service with speaker separation and speech analytics — see transcription.

Privacy and data processing
Live dictation (the “Speak” button). It works through the speech recognition built into your browser (Web Speech API). The audio is therefore sent to your browser vendor’s recognition service — Google in the case of Chrome. We neither receive nor store that audio. The text stays in your browser; the draft is saved locally (localStorage) and is not sent to our server. For confidential information use the private file upload.
AI text clean-up. When you press “Improve with AI”, the contents of the field are sent to our server and processed by a model hosted on servers in Russia. The text is used only to produce the versions shown to you; it is not published and not passed to third parties.
Private audio transcription. An uploaded file is sent to our speech-to-text farm hosted on servers in Russia and is not passed to foreign services. The source audio and the result are deleted after processing.
Personal data. The data controller is a sole proprietor (Individual Entrepreneur), TIN 381259266658 (SmittMediaGroup), Irkutsk, Russia. By sending the contact form or uploading audio you consent to the processing of the data you provide (name, email address, the contents of the message or file) for the purpose of answering your request and providing the service, in accordance with Russian Federal Law 152-FZ.
